Research

The paediatric respiratory department of the Royal Brompton Hospital has one of the highest research outputs for its type in Europe and probably the world. We all collaborate together. My research was originally into how a child's heart and lungs adapt to exercise when they have diseases such as heart disease , cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, sickle cell disease or being born very pre-term. My research has also pioneered a new treatment for Cystic Fibrosis called Azithromycin. I have co supervised three MDs (Doctor of medicine research theses) and one PhD (Doctor of Philosophy Scientific Thesis). I have a strong interest in medical statistics which means I often help with the sums in other projects!
